You love your Audi and never plan to get rid of it. If it has over 100,000 miles on the odometer, it’s going to need a new starter soon. Don’t worry. MMS Automotive can replace the starter when it needs it. Below, you will find the signs that your Audi needs a new starter. It’s important to understand that the vehicle may not exhibit all of the signs. Rather, you may end up stranded with a dead engine without any other warning. Let’s talk more about a faulty starter.
Pre-Ignition Noise
Hopefully, you will hear some pre-ignition noise before your Audi fires up. Usually, if the starter is making this noise, it will be a clicking or whirring sound. Don’t take chances if you hear either of these noises when you turn the ignition key or press the start button. Drive straight to our shop so we can inspect the starter and replace it before you end up with a…
Dead Engine
That’s right. Eventually, the starter motor will die and you will end up with a dead engine. The reason why the engine won’t start is that the starter helps the engine to draw air and fuel into the combustion chamber. Without this air and fuel, you won’t have vehicle ignition. Unfortunately, if the starter motor is a goner, you won’t be able to get your Audi’s engine started.
Working Lights
You can check to see if the problem is the starter by checking your Audi’s lights. For example, if the headlights, interior lights, and taillights are all working normally, they are getting plenty of power from the battery and the alternator. This means your Audi’s engine will not start because of the starter rather than a dead battery. If the lights are not working, it could be the battery.
Smoke/Hot Odors
One thing to keep in mind is an A+ for effort is not always a good thing. In this case, if you keep trying to start your Audi, you’re going to cause smoke and burning odors to come from the engine. Continuing to try to start the Audi will only overheat the starter motor.
Oil-Soaked Starter
Finally, the starter might die in your Audi earlier than 100,000 miles if it is soaked in motor oil. Unfortunately, this is a sign that your Audi has a cracked cylinder block. We can fix that, too.
Call MMS Automotive in South Bay, CA, today if you are having problems getting your Audi started. We will check to see if it is the starter and replace it if necessary.
